Arthur Cys OAM Bequest

Former committee member for 10 years and Honorary Treasurer, the late Arthur Cys, who died on 20 July 2001, left a very generous bequest to SAVES of over $26,000. This was donated on the condition that it be used towards the setting up of an office for the society.

SAVES is far from having sufficient capital, in the region of $200,000, to enable an office to be run on the interest alone. This has long been a dream of past and present committees and is a reality for the Victorian and the NSW Voluntary Euthanasia Societies.

An office offers many advantages, which would make our work easier and more efficient, including
the provision of a public face for the society; most important for publicity
the opportunity to store literature which is currently fragmented and often wastefully duplicated as a consequence
the provision of a place for housing quality office equipment
the provision of a place in which volunteers can undertake work

This bequest is the second one that we have been fortunate enough to receive. The first amount of $1000 was given without any provisos, and was able to be used for general expenses. These are varied and many, for example lobbying our members of parliament and informing the public, both of which prove expensive.

I take this opportunity to ask if you would consider leaving a bequest to SAVES. You can ensure that our work can continue effectively, to secure your “right to choose”.
