Local Area Groups
The formation of the first SAVES Local Area Group, the South East Area Group, was announced in the last issue of the Bulletin. The rules under which these Groups operate are as follows:

Local Area Groups may be established with the approval of the SAVES Committee, subject to the following guidelines.

  • Four office-bearers are to be appointed, a Convenor or Chairperson, a Deputy, a Secretary and a Treasurer.
  • Group committee meetings are to be held as necessary but not less than four times a year.
  • Minutes of Group committee meetings are to be kept and a copy sent to Hon. Secretary, SAVES.
  • A bank account is to be opened with two signatories - the Treasurer and one other office bearer.
  • Approved operating expenses such as telephone calls, postage, photocopying, stationery and travel may be claimed through the Treasurer, SAVES.
  • Advance authorisation is to be obtained for claims for other expenses such as the hire of a hall or the purchase of library books.
  • The Group may conduct its own fund-raising activities to finance special ventures.
  • Hon. Secretary, SAVES, is to be kept informed of any public meetings or promotions.
  • As required by Article 7 of the SAVES Constitution, public statements may be made only by a member of the Group authorised by the SAVES Committee.
  • Office bearers or nominees are welcome to attend SAVES committee meetings, preferably with prior notification to the President or Hon. Secretary.
  • The title of the Group is to be approved by the SAVES committee.
The intention of the SAVES committee is that Local Area Groups operate informally within the scope of SAVES' primary objectives, the SAVES Constitution and the above rules. Anyone interested in forming such a group should contact the President, SAVES, ph. 8264 3548, in the first instance.
