SAVES' role
As reported in the November 2002 VE Bulletin SAVES' role is the pursuit of law reform through public education and political lobbying. The society's financial capability and person power are fully committed towards this end.
There is currently some misunderstanding in the community concerning SAVES' role and the issue of self-deliverance. While people understandably consider self-deliverance in the face of interminable suffering under unjust laws, SAVES is unable to either advise or assist people seeking information on ending their lives. The society will continue to pursue law reform which, with the benefit of guidelines, safeguards and oversight through a monitoring committee, will protect and respect everyone's right to choose.
Never-the-less SAVES acknowledges that there are separate, but parallel approaches that may be undertaken to meet the needs of hopelessly and terminally ill people until legislative reform is achieved.
