Majority Support
A recent Morgan poll of 1200
people in Vic, NSW and SA has again reinforced the overwhelming support in
the community for legalised voluntary euthanasia.
79% of South Australians consider that, upon request, doctors should
be able to help end the lives of hopelessly and terminally ill patients who
are experiencing unrelievable suffering.
There is also overwhelming support for the law to be changed to allow physician
assisted suicide. Those polled also indicated that being present at a suicide
should not be considered an offence. The latest poll reflects the enormous
groundswell of opinion supporting legal reform, irrespective of demographic
issues including income level, political allegiances and religious persuasion.
